Dan O'Connnor - Year In Country 1966

Marine Dan O'Conner has passed away in 2010.  I met Dan a few years ago in Sturgis SD, where we both resided.  He served in Alpha around 66 to 67 with Weapons Platoon, Machine Gun Section. He died last year.  He was in very poor health as a result of wounds complications from 68 with 2nd Bn, 27 Marines and over medications, and a lot of other things. I did what I could for as long as I could to keep him cheered up as much as possible.  Didn't see his name on any of the lists, but wanted to get him added in with the rest of us. Thanks

Danny was my Squad Leader when I first Joined A-1-7. . He taught me a lot, kept me alive, and saved my life on more than one occassion. We talked about a lot of things after I came home. Danny did 3 tours in Country. I met him on his 2nd tour. 1966-1967. He was my weapons platoon sargent when I took over his Squad of Machineguns. 3 rd Squad Guns.

Danny married a woman with 9 children. He always wanted a family because he was an orphan raised in "boys Town" - or at least he said so. He shot up his home town with a shotgun and I talked to some people and explained that he was a bit affected by the war. He made it through and I loved the guy.

He was a close friend and a solid Marine. I will join him again on the other side as we all believe in Jesus Christ.

I will always remember him and my children would not be here if he did not save my life a long time ago.

God Bless you Danny - Guns Up !
